How the Growth 500 was compiled

The Growth 500 has been compiled by Robert Watts, the man behind the Sunday Times Rich List, the definitive analysis of wealth in the UK. Using his proven methodology and robust standards he has built the Growth 500 – the most comprehensive analysis ever of the fastest–growing businesses in the UK.

We analysed all audited accounts filed at Companies House for businesses with turnover of at least £3m per year and looked at who had grown the most over the last three years. We did not solicit or accept submissions - every business had to meet our strict and objective criteria.

Our methodology ensures a level-playing field - no sectors or company sizes are excluded, and both profitability and longevity are taken into account. We believe our three-year window strikes the right balance: it highlights companies with sustained momentum, not just fleeting success, and reflects the real landscape of business growth post-pandemic.

In total, thousands of businesses across every region and sector were reviewed, resulting in a list that is both the largest and most comprehensive of its kind in the UK. The Growth 500 offers a unique snapshot of how and where Britain is growing right now.
